Our mission
At Shield Tuition, our mission is to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to unlock their full potential in academics and beyond. We are committed to providing personalised and quality tutoring services that go beyond conventional education.
To us, quality tutoring comes in many forms…
We provide quality through our tutors by our selective recruitment process and training programmes. Our tutors not only excel in academia, but are also great teachers and role models for your child.
We provide quality through our service by having one of our friendly staff available to speak with you at all reasonable business hours. At almost all times, you will be able to speak with a director about any questions or feedback you have.
We provide quality through our resources by having a body of practice exams, online materials and sample papers for your child to use to enhance their learning. A number of our materials and resources have been created by Shield Tuition and are exclusive to our tuition services.
We provide quality through our students’ results by having an average grade increase of 23% in 2023. That means our average student increased their grades from, by way of example, a D to a C, or a B to an A.
Ultimately, our mission is to contribute to the future success of our students. By providing exceptional tutoring and guidance, we aim to play a pivotal role in shaping the leaders, innovators, and critical thinkers of tomorrow.
Who is Shield Tuition?
Shield Tuition was co-founded by brothers Kye and Jesse, combining their diverse experiences and shared commitment to enhance the educational outcomes of Australia’s veteran families. Shield Tuition is uniquely knowledgeable about the current education entitlements in the Australian Defence Force and The Department of Veterans’ Affairs. We are proud to support Australia’s current and former serving members to ensure the educational outcomes of our ADF dependants are improved.
Jesse served in the Australian Army and deployed on operations domestically and overseas. Throughout his time in the ADF, he witnessed firsthand the educational challenges faced by children of the veteran community, particularly the disruptions caused by regular postings and deployments. These experiences inspired Jesse to co-found Shield Tuition with the goal of providing the additional educational support that defence families deserve.
Kye, our other founder, has been in the tutoring industry for 6 years and is a full time Medical student with aspirations to become a Doctor specialised in delivering health care for veterans. Kye placed in the top 99% of school graduates in 2020. Kye has a passion for learning and assisting others in their academic ambitions.
Combining both sides of these experiences from both Kye and Jesse, Shield Tuition was formed. It is amazing to see how many veteran families we have helped, and the immediate impact our services have on the educational outcomes of veteran children.
How we are implementing our mission
Education Schemes (Department of Veteran Affairs) Term by Term Programme
Shield Tuition is one of a small number of Australian providers of tuition to the children of veterans eligible for assistance under the Education Schemes (ES). The ES is a scheme administered under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (Cth) & Veterans’ Entitlement Act’ 1986 pursuant to which eligible Veterans are entitled to funding to be used to assist their children in their education. The scheme was introduced to recognise and remediate the impact an injury/injuries to veterans can have on their children’s education.
Tutoring in Indonesia
In 2024, our co-founder and managing director Kye Shield helped tutor children at an orphanage named Yayasan Mawaddah Pancoran, located in Sukasada, Indonesia. The children were all so grateful for Kye’s help!

Shield Tuition Tutor Training Programme - Tutoring the Shield Tuition way
Starting from 2024, Shield Tuition tutors will be trained by Shield Tuition at the commencement of their engagement with us. This includes the completion of training modules and tests to ensure our new up and coming tutors are equipped with the same skills as our current tutor base.
Application for Commonwealth Veteran Wellbeing Grant
We are currently in the process of applying for a Commonwealth Veteran Wellbeing Grant (VWG). The VWG program provides funding for eligible ex-service organisations (ESOs) to deliver community based projects and activities for the veteran community. We are one of the few tutoring companies who may be eligible for the grant, as Shield Tuition is owned and operated by the family of a former serving member of the Australian Defence Force.
