The Top 3 Best Primary School Resources | Our Thoughts
As education has moved increasingly online, the demand for quality primary school online resources has grown. With the abundance of options available, it can be difficult for parents and teachers to know where to turn. To help, I have compiled a list of the top three best primary school online resources: K5 Learning, Twinkl, and Khan Academy. We utilise these resources in our sessions and encourage you to take a look.
1. K5 Learning
K5 Learning is an online reading and math website for grades 1 to 6. The website offers a host of free available worksheets that are easily downloadable and relevant to the school work your child is completing. There is a plethora of activities so it is unlikely you will run out. I personally like the worded questions, they are simple enough to complete, but get your child used to answering worded problems. This is an underrated skill that students often fall behind in, particularly in the later years when mathematics becomes assessed in words rather than just numbers.
The main benefit of K5 learning is the free resources which are of great value. However, K5 lacks the ability to walk your child through the content itself. That is why it is a great resource to be used simultaneously with private tutoring.

2. Twinkl
Twinkl is an online resource library for primary school teachers and parents. The platform provides a vast array of teaching resources, including worksheets, lesson plans, and activities, covering a range of subjects from math and science to social studies and art.
What sets Twinkl apart is its breadth of resources. With over 600,000 resources, there’s something for every student and teacher. Additionally, the resources are designed to be visually appealing and engaging, which can help students stay focused and motivated.
Twinkl in my opinion is the best online resource that exists. Their content is specific to the Australian curriculum which is important to ensure students are learning relevant material. Also, they offer a program called TwinkleGo which is a platform where the worksheets and content are incorporated into interactive games.
The main criticism of Twinkl is that it is a subscription-based service. The annual option is the cheapest. Additionally, the filtering system is not great as the site often shows you grade 1 resources when you are searching for grade 6. Moreover, Twinkl does not offer a teaching modality but rather just teaching resources. However, they do provide educational videos which I think are great. Ultimately, it is best used alongside private tuition. It is not cheap, but if you do not mind investing in education, this is without a doubt the best online resource for primary school.
3. Khan Academy
Khan Academy is a non-profit organisation that provides free online courses, lessons, and practice exercises for students from kindergarten through to college. The platform covers a wide range of subjects, including math, science, history, economics, and computer science.
One of the benefits of Khan Academy is that it provides a comprehensive and structured learning experience. Each course is broken down into manageable chunks, with video lectures and practice exercises to reinforce the concepts. However, Khan Academy is entirely automated and comes with a hefty subscription cost. The information is very specific so is it great for high-level learners that would like a quick answer and is also more intended for the later school years.
In conclusion, primary school online resources are an invaluable tool for parents and teachers looking to support their students' learning. K5 Learning, Twinkl, and Khan Academy are three of the best resources available, providing high-quality content, and engaging activities, but are lacking personalised learning experiences. To reach the full potential of these resources they are best used alongside private tuition.
